shiny little records ** home of The Quavers / T Griffin Coraline / T. Griffin
About
The Quavers coax a luminous sound out of decayed samplers, walkmans, vibraphonettes, footpedal loopers, tape echo violin and homespun harmonies. Like a space-age Carter Family, they weave low-tech electronics around songs sturdy enough to stand up even if the power goes out. They call it "porch techno".
The Quavers are based in Brooklyn, NY and consist of songwriter/singer/guitarist/sampler-wrangler T. Griffin and violinist/singer/sampler-wrangler Catherine McRae along with frequent collaborators Dennis Cronin on vibraphonette, lap steel and trumpet and Bruce Cawdron on drums and glockenspiel.
The Quavers evolved from a T. Griffin solo project into a duo project with Catherine McRae that recorded 2004's The Sea Won't Take Long under the moniker T. Griffin Coraline. They function entirely as a band now, so they decided it was time to take a band name. More into is in history.
Their new CD, LIt By Your Phone, features 13 songs found in the trunk of a black 1993 Saturn.

Live, The Quavers conjure the atmosphere that sets their recordings apart by using a small army of toy samplers, walkmans and footpedal loopers. This is a video of them performing the title song from The Sea Won't Take Long.
